The Women's Asia Cup T20 2022 will see Pakistan Women taking on Sri Lanka Women in the second semi-final. With five wins out of six games, Pakistan Women finished the league stages in second place with 10 points. As a result, they won their last league game by five wickets against Sri Lanka Women. A fifer by Omaima Sohail helped Pakistan Women defeat Sri Lanka Women on 112. In the penultimate over, Pakistan's batters stepped up and contributed to chasing the total down with five wickets in hand. In the second semi-final against the same opponents, they will look to repeat their performance. On the other hand, Sri Lanka Women finished third. The team finished with eight points after winning four of their six games. In the knockout stages of the competition, Sri Lanka will try to avenge their league loss. Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 41 but was not supported by the other end. In the end, they were unable to defend the total due to Kavisha Dilhari's three wickets. Against Pakistan Women, they will have to work together.
The Sri Lankans Women celebrate over this match success. There is something so heartwarming about the integrity and unity of these Sri Lankan sides! This is a cricket match that Pakistan had by the scruff of the neck until the final over. The lack of boundaries throughout the middle overs proved to be the deciding factor in the outcome. There is no doubt that the Sri Lankan spinners have done a fantastic job and picking one of them as the player of the match would be unfair to the others. She might have missed her yorker occasionally, but she must be commended for hitting the right areas and not letting Dar or Riaz clear the in-field.
The Pakistanis got off to a good start in the run-chase, as Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen led the way. Muneeba was run out after slipping on her way back after being denied a run by Pakistan. With the overs breezing by one after another without being too costly, Sri Lankan Women hope just kept growing. Despite Sri Lankan spinners keeping tight lines, Pakistan's middle-order batters lacked urgency to end the game in the middle overs. The game seemed to open up towards the end when Maroof played all around a Sugandika Kumari and broke the shackles. After a relatively quiet afternoon, there was a burst of drama and interest as the game neared its conclusion. There was still some firepower Pakistan could rely on, but little did they know what lay ahead. Young Ayesha Naseem found out the hard way that hitting from the beginning is difficult on a sluggish track. Pakistan was left to chase 9 off the final over after Inoka Ranaweera bowled a gem of an over. In trying to hit big, Kulasuriya gave the two Pakistan batters little to hit, and they kept finding the fielders. It was more chaotic at the end than it was throughout the entire game combined, Dar was put out by Dilhari, but she compensated by attempting to throw at the keeper just in time, and Sanjeewani jumped onto the stumps for her life, sparking wild celebrations. This close match favors in Sri Lanka women and won by 1 run and a ticket to the finals.
