Big Bash League 2022-23 Match 47

Big Bash League 2022-23 Match 47 by 11ic

The 47th game of the continuing Big Bash League 2022-23 will feature a match between the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder. To advance to the next round, the Renegades are almost there. As of right now, they are third in the points standings with 12 points earned from 11 games.

The Sydney Thunder, meanwhile, have had a very challenging tournament. They currently sit in sixth place in the standings with 10 points to their name, and they desperately need a victory to advance to the semifinals. Early in the competition, the two teams had a meeting. That game was won by the Melbourne Renegades by a margin of four wickets.

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder

The Sydney Thunder easily coast home with a resounding victory as they barely break a sweat. With a few exceptions in each of the two innings, it was the ideal game for them at certain points. Their bowlers performed brilliantly to limit the Renegades to 142 after a shaky start in the first innings. Without Will Sutherland's cameo at the end of the first inning, that could have been much worse. In response, the Sydney Thunder got off to a cautious start, taking some time to establish themselves with their first two goals. As Rocchioccioli prevailed, Warner progressed admirably but was unable to build on his opening attempt. In that over, the rookie had just completed a hat-trick and had already dismissed Warner and Davies, giving his team some hope.

The Renegades were never able to fully capitalize on that, though. If Fawad had retained the legal catch, they would have had the opportunity to dismiss Gilkes in the same over. As soon as that chance vanished, Melbourne's hopes also vanished. Ross provided sufficient assistance as the two scored a partnership to help Gilkes reach his unbeaten half-century and lead his team to victory. A reliable option for taking wickets was not available from any other Renegades bowler who posed a threat. The game's outcome was determined by the dropped catch, which ultimately worked in Sydney Thunder's favor as they easily crossed the finish line.
