In the Big Bash League Eliminator Round, the Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat will square off. The winner of this match will advance to the Challenger, while the loser will be eliminated from the competition altogether. By defeating the Melbourne Stars in the final game of the regular season, the Thunder just barely made it into this match. The Hobart Hurricanes were thus unable to qualify as a result.
Due to earlier victories over the Heat (twice), the Thunder are in a stronger position than the Heat. It must be kept in mind that the Thunder completely destroyed the Heat and won the match by 10 wickets when the two teams last played at the same location. They will be hoping for a repeat of that performance, as will their fans, who are expected to be present in large numbers tonight. Will the Heat, led by Australian international Usman Khawaja, find a lever and outperform everyone else in the nation when they least expect it, or can Chris Green's team pull it off and advance to the Challenger?
Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat
Warner appears risky, which is unfortunate for Thunder since it would have been a fantastic ending. The Thunder are eliminated since this is an eliminator, and the Heat advance to the knockout, where they will play the Melbourne Renegades. After Khawaja and Marnus stole the spotlight with their bats, Heat made a significant score off of those two innings, with Renshaw making a guest appearance to help accelerate the pace.
Warner was in the lead when the chase first started, but rain soon set in. Any chance of a restart was eliminated by a second downpour because Thunder fell 8 behind on the DLS.
