3 Costly players of CSK who will play in IPL 2023

3 Costly players of CSK who will play in IPL 2023 by 11ic

Ben Stokes was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings for a staggering 16.25 crore at the 2023 Indian Premier League auction, so they didn't need to be prompted twice to splash the cash. Many people in the cricket community believe that Moves isn't worth such a high price tag, in particular if he isn't given the role that he wants to play for the team. But given that it was a mini-auction and player accessibility was a key topic of discussion, CSK made sense in spending the money.

However, other players on the roster have contracts that may go against logic because they were signed either before the 2022 reorganization or in the course of it.

Ambati Rayudu, a batter for the CSK, has recently had his career marred by disagreement after he first appeared to revoke his retirement announcement. He appears to be all set to participate in IPL 2023 for the Men in Yellow.

Fans and experts alike were critical of CSK's decision to purchase Rayudu in the IPL 2022 mega-auction for 6.75 crore. Sadly, the 37-year-old did himself little favors by only managing 274 runs in the previous campaign, averaging 24 points per run and striking out 122 points per 100. Since Rayudu is no longer involved in international cricket, it appears that he has little left in the tank based on his recent domestic performances. The middle-order batter should ideally be on a discounted deal that won't have an impact on CSK's finances, but that isn't the case at the moment.

Deepak Chahar hasn't appeared in a single game for CSK since signing with them for 14 crore at the IPL 2022 mega-auction. The all-around player had a serious injury that kept him out for the entire past season, and in recent months, he has also fought with his fitness. Chahar is a useful T20 all-rounder, but he is undoubtedly unworthy of such a obscene contract. The Super Kings probably wouldn't feel comfortable using him higher than No. 3 because his batting at the highest level is not particularly proven. Eight players are present.

Chahar is a capable wicket-taker in powerplay situations with the ball, but he doesn't contribute much else to the innings. The 30-year-old cricketer isn't trustworthy enough to be on a 14 crore contract when you combine that with his injury issues.

Despite the fact that MS Dhoni is perhaps the best skipper the game has ever known, his batting heyday has long since past. The former Indian captain's batting performances over the past few IPL seasons have been dismal, and he looks to be nearing the end of his career as a top-tier player. Dhoni currently commands 12 crore of CSK's auction budget, but neither his performance nor his results have been sufficient to support that sum. It could be argued that his leadership is the only aspect of the Super Kings roster that keeps them competitive in the IPL, but he wasn't even the captain when he was named the team's second retention prior to the 2022 mega-auction.

Ravindra Jadeja has since been replaced by MS Dhoni, and the franchise is back to normal. To justify consuming such a sizeable portion of CSK's budget, the 41-year-old will need to produce wildly distinct batting performances in the coming season.

The Indian Premier League will have its sixteenth season in 2023. The IPL 2023 will take place from April 1 through June 4, 2023.
