2023 IPL Update : 3 CSK Players Who Are Worth Way More Than Their Contracts

2023 IPL Update - 11icBlog2

During the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did not hold back in their pursuit of Ben Stokes, paying 16.25 crore to secure his services.

Along with the franchise's captain MS Dhoni and previous captain Ravindra Jadeja, Stokes joins a group of high-earning players. Jadeja was the Super Kings' first retention before the IPL 2022 mega-auction and was valued at 16 crore, compared to Dhoni's 12 crore.

Nevertheless, Chennai has a number of players who are on discounted contracts and contribute more to the team than their asking prices would indicate.

Here are three Chennai Super Kings players who are far more worth than their IPL 2023 contracts.

Mukesh Choudhary

In an otherwise terrible IPL 2022 season, Mukesh Choudhary was one of CSK's few shining moments. The uncapped bowler returned 16 wickets at an economy rate of 9.32 as the Men in Yellow placed ninth and missed the playoffs, and his penetration in the powerplay helped to break open games.

Due to Deepak Chahar's injury, Mukesh, who wasn't even anticipated to play for CSK last year, was able to surpass the other domestic pacers on the roster and earn a spot in the team's starting lineup. The left-arm seamer might possibly pair Chahar with the new ball during IPL 2023.

Given how effective he was in the previous season, Mukesh was purchased by CSK for a paltry 20 lakh rupees. The question is whether he will be able to repeat his successes this time.

Mitchell Santner

The absence of Mitchell Santner from additional CSK games is due solely to Ravindra Jadeja's presence. Over the course of the last four IPL seasons, the Kiwi has only appeared in 12 games while claiming 10 wickets at an economy rate of 6.93.

The Super Kings paid 1.9 crore to get Santner at the IPL 2022 mega-auction. He was far below his base price, yet he's still probably getting paid too little. With his pace changes and precision, the New Zealander is perhaps the best left-arm spinner in T20 cricket, and his batting simply makes the situation better.

With Jadeja in the mix and Maheesh Theekshana performing well the previous year, Santner could not have a significant part to play for CSK in the IPL 2023 either. Regarding Theekshana.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana might have been acquired by the Chennai Super Kings for around 70 lakh at the IPL 2022 mega-auction. After participating in nine games for the Men in Yellow, the Sri Lankan spinner finished with 12 wickets taken at an economy rate of 7.46.

Due to CSK playing half of their league games at Chepauk, Theekshana's role is only expected to increase this season. MS Dhoni's tactics relied heavily on the spinner's cunning and all-phase ability, especially given that the skipper lacked a reliable wrist-spinner.

One of the top T20 spinners in the world, Theekshana's contract was and remains a tremendous purchase for CSK.
